Ranch to Contemporary
The work I did on this 1950’s home was a collaboration with the owners’ unique sense of style. Husband and wife were in the process of relocating to the United States when they asked me to help convert this classic Ranch-style home to reflect a more contemporary aesthetic. The kitchen was completely reconfigured into a sleek, modern style, which also respects feng shui principles. I suggested removing the kitchen’s back wall and replacing it with a floor-to-ceiling window to take advantage of the beautiful pool views and natural filtered light from the well landscaped backyard. The wood floors were refinished and stained a lighter color, and lighting was added throughout the home to brighten things up. I worked with the owners to highlight their considerable collection of contemporary art by suggesting a complimentary color palette and new furniture pieces to coordinate with their existing furnishings. The owners wanted a jazzy, modern look for their master bathroom. We achieved this by selecting the stunning herringbone tile pattern used on the floor in combination with the unique custom vanity she designed. One of the challenges of this project was that I had to work with the wife via Skype and WhatsApp until the project was completed and the family moved to San Marino.
